PROVERB

Two small LCD monitors are installed at eye-level in a wall-mounted object. One LCD monitor has headphones attached to it. This monitor shows the video “Manchmal…” (“Sometimes…”). It is based on the autobiographical sentence, “Sometimes there are days when you feel like you’ve grown emotionally”. In this video, image level and sound level are separated from each other; the sound level comes after the image level. The second LCD monitor shows the video “proverb”. It shows the translation into Austrian sign language of a Chinese proverb, which I found in the context of my research on sign language:

‘Tell me and I’ll forget;

Show me and I may remember;

Involve me and I’ll understand.’

This tape was produced in cooperation with Brigitta Mikulasek, sign language interpreter at WITAF (Vienna Deaf and Dumb Care Association), Vienna.

Both videos are cut as loops and do not run in sync.
