WINDPATH
spatial analogue forestal wind chime composition
The temporary sound installation for public space WINDPATH consists of 45 individually tuned wind chimes.
The wind chimes are suspended in trees connecting two places acoustically. In this case it was the two bell towers of the villages Witterschlick and Roettgen close to Bonn, Germany, about 3,5 kilometres apart. The wind chimes were installed along a road connecting the two villages within hearing range of each other. When the recipient of the work is standing between two wind chimes a harmonic mix can be heard. Thus the recipient can control the speed of the composition and the duration of the sounds, stopping at will at certain points along the way. The composition is revealed step by step.
The wind chimes are tuned in 45 microtonal steps based on the pitch and tone of the village bells. The sound is generated by impulses of the wind in an aleatoric way constantly producing remixed cluster sounds.
