SWEET LIFE
The sound installation “SWEET LIFE”, specifically developed for an exhibition in the Vorgebirgspark Cologne 2003, works with amputation or the radical removal of the natural.
An acoustic image of a tree missing from two rows of trees facing each other is reproduced by a number of loudspeakers piled on top of each other on a tree stump. The “artificial tree” plays a composition of sounds that is similar to the sounds of wind and real trees. It always creates a delicate balance between reality and artificiality – a delusion of a perfect world. The simulation is coupled with a second component of the “real” simulation in the form of a bonsai tree placed centrally between the two rows of trees. Here again an almost perfect simulation is presented. Maybe the simulated natural sounds of the large tree could have an effect on the growth of its miniature counterpart?
